Graco car seat expiration
Graco states the useful life of its seats as 10 years (belt-positioning boosters and harnessed seats with steel-reinforced belt paths) · 7 years (harnessed seats with plastic-reinforced belt paths (Graco's own example: the Contender 65 Convertible Car Seat)) · 10 years (seats whose own Graco instruction manual states this figure under "Car Seat's Useful Life" — the Extend2Fit Convertible (PD348857C), the 4Ever DLX (NWL0001677298C) and the SlimFit (NWL0001647913B)) · 7 years (seats whose own Graco instruction manual states this figure under "Car Seat's Useful Life" — the SnugRide 35 infant car seat (PD284963A 11/14; Graco's earlier SnugRide 35 manuals PD209338A and PD300300A state the same figure)). The date of manufacture on your seat's label plus that figure is the expiration date.
Graco's useful life keys on belt-path construction — steel-reinforced (10 years) vs plastic-reinforced (7 years) — not on seat category alone. Graco's page says the stamp on the seat or the manual states which applies to your seat, and that stamp is authoritative. Graco's per-model instruction manuals print the figure directly, in a section headed "Car Seat's Useful Life", without naming the belt-path construction: that sentence is what ties a model to a figure here, and it is why the Extend2Fit, 4Ever DLX, SlimFit and SnugRide 35 carry one. A model whose manual could not be read carries none.
Graco's stated figures
| Useful life | Applies to | Graco's own words |
|---|---|---|
| 10 years | Belt-positioning boosters and harnessed seats with steel-reinforced belt paths | Graco defines "useful life" as 10 years for belt-positioning boosters and for steel-reinforced belt path car seats and 7 years for plastic-reinforced belt path car seats. |
| 7 years | Harnessed seats with plastic-reinforced belt paths (Graco's own example: the Contender 65 Convertible Car Seat) | Both will say "Do not use this child restraint..." and will reference either a 10-year useful life (for belt-positioning boosters and for harnessed seats with steel-reinforced belt paths) or 7-year useful life (for harnessed seats with plastic-reinforced belt paths, such as the Contender 65 Convertible Car Seat). |
| 10 years | Seats whose own Graco instruction manual states this figure under "Car Seat's Useful Life" — the Extend2Fit Convertible (PD348857C), the 4Ever DLX (NWL0001677298C) and the SlimFit (NWL0001647913B) | STOP using this car seat and throw it away 10 years after the date of manufacture. |
| 7 years | Seats whose own Graco instruction manual states this figure under "Car Seat's Useful Life" — the SnugRide 35 infant car seat (PD284963A 11/14; Graco's earlier SnugRide 35 manuals PD209338A and PD300300A state the same figure) | STOP using this car seat and throw it away 7 years after the date of manufacture. |

Where the date is on a Graco seat
The Date of Manufacture (DOM) is printed on one of the seat's labels; the useful-life statement is in the manual or stamped into the shell, beginning "Do not use this child restraint..."
Each Graco car seat is marked with its Date of Manufacture (DOM) on one of your car seat's labels. To identify your car seat's useful life, check out your manual or look for it stamped into the car seat.
